What's my Unique Selling Point?

Whenever I end up talking to business people, the first thing they'll ask of me is 'so what's your unique selling point?'; 'why should people come to you for pilates?'; 'what's your 2 minute elevator pitch?' (I really dislike that last question!)

The problem with these questions is that I didn't get into the pilates business to create a big business, or to make lots of money doing pilates, or to get loads of followers! I got into pilates for my own personal reasons (similar to many of my clients')....I was suffering chronic pain (that just means on-going pain for more than 3 months); sleepless nights; total frustration that everything I had tried hadn't worked.

I then was lucky enough to find a great pilates teacher, who turned out to be a Supervisor teacher for the Pilates Association that I trained and qualified with.

When I qualified, I just wanted to preach the benefits of pilates because of how much it helped me. I didn't have any vision to create a 'business'; I just wanted to share what I'd learnt.

I left a good job in HR/Finance so one minute I was earning a good salary. The next minute I was not. Out of necessity, I had to build up my classes quickly. I still had 2 kids to get through school. But at no time, was I out to build a business. So.....these questions were/are difficult for me to answer.

In response, I reactively say 'I want to help people'. If someone has a bad shoulder, I want to find a way to make it better. If someone has difficulty walking up steps, I want to build their strength so that they can. If someone wants to play tennis again, I want to help them do that. Not a good business answer. But that's just me being real.

If you want to be listened to - give me a call and I will listen and I'll do my very best to help. That's all I want to do.
