A Calm, Professional Approach to Rebuilding Strength & Mobility
For desk-based professionals whose bodies are starting to feel the effects of years at a desk
If you’ve spent much of your working life seated....concentrating, leading, thinking, problem‑solving then you may be noticing that your body is no longer keeping pace with your intentions.
Perhaps sitting at your desk has become more tiring than it used to be. Perhaps your neck, back or shoulders are persistently uncomfortable. Perhaps you’re active in mind and motivation, but cautious when doing activities, hobbies, sport.
This is not a personal failing. It’s a common, predictable outcome of long‑term desk‑based work and a lack of awareness around the effects of the 'Chain of Compensation'.
I'll explain all this further on, but let me share a bit of my story....

Hi, I'm Sophie.
Before training as a Pilates teacher, I spent many years working in business operations, HR, finance and leadership. I understand the physical and mental demands of professional life and the way that movement gradually disappears without anyone noticing.
I am an example of someone, who, despite having had years of being fit from 22 yrs old to 42 yrs old, was starting to suffer the consequences of desk-based work, plus the effects of the ‘Chain of Compensation’.
I used to do regular Boot Camps, runs, got into the Hall of Fame amongst my boot campers for squats, lunges, sit ups, push ups, and then did the Three Peaks Challenge within the challenge time of 24 hours.
I damaged my hips, particularly my right one and hobbled around for 2 weeks after the challenge, then got back into my boot camp, and forgot all about it.
Following a messy divorce, incessant work stress, financial stress which led me to taking on more work hours, I gave up my boot camp and runs, and that's when my body started breaking down.
The hip injury triggered a Chain of Compensation that left me feeling like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. But I didn't realise at the time what was happening - in fact, I remember blaming it on a new bed mattress at the time!!
We all roll over several times during our sleep, I couldn't roll, I'd wake up in pain. I'd lock up completely, unable to flip myself over. Walking became a struggle (making art galleries & museums a no-go). Standing in a train became a struggle. Watching TV on the sofa became a struggle. And of course, sitting at a desk was a struggle. Just continuous pain in my right hip and back.
My GP sent me for x-rays, MRI scans. Physical therapists massaged and prescribed exercises. Acupuncturists stuck needles in me. Chiropractors cracked me. Specialists gave me cortisone injections.
Nothing worked.
Now I realise that they were all treating the symptoms, not the Chain of Compensation. Finally, someone suggested Pilates to me.
I'll be brutally honest, I just felt 'meh'. I didn't understand how it worked.
No sweat. No burn. No obvious "work" happening. The instructor kept talking about "breathing" and "core connection", I almost stopped going, except that I became really grateful for the hour I spent, just mindfully working on my body, and taking care of myself. A mental relief from work stresses.
Then I started to feel the physical benefits.
For the first time in a long time, I managed to get some sleep.
I could manage to move during the night without waking. The stabbing pains were subsiding. Standing on a train became a little easier. Watching TV became a little easier and sitting at my work desk became a little easier.
My hip was starting to unlock. My back was releasing.
Pilates did that for me.
It was the reversal of the Chain of Compensation.
To achieve it, you need a systematic approach; a personal approach; someone who understands the kinetic chains within the body; someone who'll take the time to investigate and find those movements that will help to unlock you.
I can help you to do that. I like to specialise in working with people whose bodies are struggling to keep up with active minds.
My work is calm, considered and personalised. Its not about pushing or performing. It is about understanding your 'gives' and 'restrictions'; building knowledge about your body; gaining tools (movement patterns) that will help you to have an active and fulfilling time, even beyond retirement!
Why Is Your Body Seizing Up?
(It's Not What You Think)
Here's what is REALLY happening inside your body and why everything you've tried hasn't worked.
Most people (and unfortunately, most fitness professionals) think stiffness and joint pain are solely caused by:
-
Getting older
-
Wear and tear
-
Lack of exercise
-
Poor posture
They're all missing the point.
What I realised after watching hundreds of professionals, not only active in mind but active with hobbies/sport such as hikers, golfers, gardeners, tennis players, suddenly finding themselves "old", seemingly overnight:
their bodies aren't aging uniformly. It actually breaks down in a specific, predictable sequence...
that is the "Chain of Compensation".
Once you understand how it works, everything will change for you.
How the Chain of Compensation happens:

Stage 1: The Trigger Event (you may or may not remember this)
-
A trauma from an accident or surgery, or maybe a minor injury (twisted ankle, pulled muscle, awkward movement) - in my case The Three Peak Challenge
-
Coupled with years of sitting, combined with mental load and reduced variety of movement
-
Your body compensates by changing how you move
-
One joint stops moving properly
Stage 2: The Domino Effect (this happens unconsciously)
-
Your hip stops rotating → your lower back works overtime
-
Your thoracic spine locks → your neck and shoulders strain
-
Your core switches off → every other muscle works twice as hard
Stage 3: The Cascade Accelerates (this is where you notice you're starting "to feel old")
-
Compensation becomes permanent
-
New pain appears in seemingly unrelated areas
-
Simple movements become difficult
-
Sleep becomes interrupted
-
Activities you love become difficult & no longer a pleasure
This explains why you can't pinpoint exactly WHERE the problem started, and why treating individual symptoms never works.
The physio works on your back, but your hip is still locked. The massage therapist loosens your shoulders, but your thoracic spine is still rigid. The trainer tells you to strengthen your core, but your breathing pattern is all wrong.
You haven't suddenly 'aged' without reason. Your body is just stuck in a compensation pattern and once we break that pattern, everything can change.
The Personalised Pilates Online Course: Why It Works
This Personalised Pilates online course works because it addresses the ROOT CAUSE, not just the symptoms.
Think about it: every other approach treats your body like a collection of separate parts:
-
Massage for tight shoulders
-
Stretching for stiff hips
-
Strengthening for weak core
-
Medication for pain
But the Chain of Compensation is a SYSTEM problem, not a parts problem.
The Personalised Pilates method works in 3 systematic phases:
Phase 1: UNLOCK
We identify which joints have stopped moving properly and gently restore their natural range of motion using specific breathing patterns and micro-movements that bypass your body's protective mechanisms.
Phase 2: STABILIZE
We retrain your deep core system to provide the stability your body has been desperately seeking through compensation patterns. When your core works properly, every other muscle can relax.
Phase 3: INTEGRATE
I teach your nervous system to move as one connected unit again, eliminating the chain of compensation forever. Your body remembers how to move naturally.
This isn't about building muscle or losing weight or getting "fitter."
This is about breaking the compensation patterns, one locked joint at a time.
The beautiful thing? It works regardless of your age, fitness level, or how long you've been struggling.
Margaret was 67 and hadn't exercised in 15 years. Janet was 72 with severe arthritis. Robert was 58, overweight, and convinced he was "too far gone."
The Personalised Pilates method worked for all of them because it addresses the real problem.
Not age. Not fitness.
But the Chain of Compensation.
Final Essential Ingredient:
You need to become truly aware and responsible for looking after your own body. This Personalised Pilates online course teaches you to do that. I'm giving you all the knowledge and understanding that you need, to take with you, so you can continue good practices that will take you into your 90s in a fully functional way. But it's up to you how successful you are!

The results speak for themselves:
What My Clients Say
Sarah G, Age 44
Sophie's approach is completely different from anything I've tried. Within 2 weeks, I was sleeping through the night for the first time in years. By week 4, I was back playing tennis, something I'd given up 3 years ago thinking my shoulder was 'worn out.' The personalized videos are absolute gold. I still use them daily.
Frederick H, Age 56
I was sceptical. I've tried everything … physio, chiropractors, personal trainers, yoga classes. Nothing worked long-term. Sophie's method is different because she doesn't just treat the pain. She fixes what's causing it. My golf swing is better than it was 10 years ago, and I'm not even sore afterwards.
Richard S, Age 69
After my hip replacement, everyone said I'd never be the same. Sophie proved them wrong. The way she explains how everything connects in your body just makes sense. I'm hiking again, gardening without pain, and I sleep like a baby. At 69, I feel more confident moving than I have done before.
What's This Really Worth to You?
Let's be realistic about what you're facing if you don't address this:
A Traditional Route
Private physiotherapy: £80 per session × 8 sessions = £640
Personal training: £60 per session × 12 sessions = £720
Massage therapy: £70 per session × 6 sessions = £420
Chiropractor visits: £50 per session × 10 sessions = £500
Or a mix n match of 1 or more of the above
And that's assuming they actually fix the problem
The 4 week Personalised Pilates Online Course
Most of my private clients pay £70 per hour for one-to-one pilates sessions.
In this course, you get:
-
2+ hours of personal attention via Zoom
-
4 x optional group online sessions
-
A lifetime library of personalised videos of various lengths for YOUR body (1min > 10mins > 20 mins). You'll never forget how to do a 'Cat' again!
-
Direct access to me for 4 weeks via Whatsapp or Telegram
(That's less than 2 physiotherapy sessions)
Why so affordable?
Because I remember what it felt like spending money on various treatments that didn't work.
Because I'm interested in results. And when you get those results, I'd like you to share them.
Because with the knowledge I've been lucky enough to gain, it's my way of Paying It Forward
My primary passion through all my work as a professional in business operations, HR, finance and leadership has been to help people. And I'd like to help you.

Picture This...
