HELLO
I'm Sophie
Owner of both Pilatestar.com & Sophie's Pilates
I'm a Body Control Pilates Teacher, Back4Good® Practitioner & Bone Health Specialist.
I originally set up my business in Dulwich, South East London, but I've now moved to Spain (somewhere between Alicante & Valencia!). From Spain I remotely run my Dulwich business & provide, live online classes, video courses & 1:1 home visits in Spain.

I am passionate about technique so whether you're a beginner or advanced client, I like to observe, correct, & ensure you're getting the most out of any movement. I am articulate & like to provide context behind the movements. I have a keen interest in working with people who suffer from back pain and people who are into physical fitness and/or love their sport...

I spent around 10 years ferrying my son around to tennis clubs and tournaments, as he was a performance tennis player. My partner is a tennis coach, a personal trainer and an avid weightlifter.

This is why I became interested in working with people who like to do sports as a hobby. I’m currently working with those who like to play tennis, lift weights, run, complete challenges and play golf. Tennis players and golfers both have to master specific, technical strokes which put a lot of strain on the shoulder and hip joints, and of course the spine. Pilates can help with that, preventing injury; reducing stiffness and soreness post game. Most importantly it can help you to become more aware of your 'gives' & 'restrictions'. Your sport and Pilates is a great combo!

As well as being keen to work with those who like to keep active, I also have an interest in low back pain. Partly due to my own issues with hip and back pain, which you can read about in my personal journey above. I am a qualified Back4Good® practitioner, fully appreciating what it feels like to be in pain, & how to reduce pain.

It’s interesting that on-going chronic back pain is not necessarily the fault of your spine, but possibly 'gives' or 'restrictions' in your other main joints, lack of core stability, or a lack of awareness of habitual movements that cause the aches.

As a Back4Good® practitioner I can liaise with your GP or consultant to facilitate your referral and plan the best programme for you.
